Bowel Cancer Awareness Week 2011

Bowel cancer is our country’s second biggest cancer killer, after lung cancer. The good news is that 90% of cases can be cured if found early.

We recommend screening every two years from the age of 50. You can screen for bowel cancer at home, using a Faecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT).

Through the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, Australians aged 50, 55 and 65 get a free kit in the mail. For everyone else over 50, FOBTs are available through your GP, online or at selected pharmacies.

You can also support our Get Behind Bowel Screening campaign and add your voice to more than 22,000 others who have asked the Australian Government to expand the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program to provide free tests every two years for Australians aged 50 and over.
