Government Partnerships

Cancer Council Australia is a community-based organisation that receives no ongoing government funding and is an independent voice promoting evidence-based cancer control policy.

We do have various ongoing partnerships with Australian Government agencies and are represented on working parties and committees. We also provide advice to elected parliamentarians aimed at informing cancer control policies.

In 2004, Cancer Council Australia called on all federal parliamentarians to support the establishment of a government-funded, centralised cancer control agency. The Australian Government subsequently introduced Cancer Australia, which became operational in August 2006.

Cancer Council Australia aims to work co-operatively with Cancer Australia, strengthening the relationship between the government and non-government sectors to reduce the death and disability caused by cancer in Australia.
