General practitioners and practice nurses are at the frontline of clinical consultation in Australia, so there is scope for practitioners to play a significant role in the prevention and early detection of cancer.
Cancer Council Australia’s General Practice Committee engages directly with the general practice (primary care) sector and produces a range of resources to assist GPs and practice nurses in managing cancer risk in patients.
Specific policy information on the role of general practice is contained in most chapters of our National Cancer Prevention Policy.
