Cancer Council Australia, COSA final submission towards a national carer strategy

December 2010

Increasing numbers of Australians are being diagnosed with cancer and living with cancer for more extensive periods.

Australia’s new National Carer Strategy must address the specific needs of people living with cancer, as well as their carers.

Information, access to care co-ordinators, improved income support and financial assistance, and timely access to practical and emotional support should all be formally incorporated into the new National Carer Strategy.

Cancer Council Australia and the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia (COSA) have detailed their recommendations in this submission to the public consultation set up by the Australian Government to inform development of the strategy.
