About Cancer Council Australia
Cancer Council Australia is the nation’s leading non-government cancer control organisation, focused on reducing the impact of cancer through research, prevention, and support. We work alongside the community, health professionals, and government to provide trusted information and services to those affected by cancer. With a mission to save lives and create a cancer-free future, Cancer Council offers a purpose-driven workplace where everyone can make a meaningful difference to help improve outcomes for people affected by cancer.
About the role
The National Cancer Navigation Service is a key component of the Australian Government’s Australian Cancer Nursing and Navigation Program (ACNNP). This national initiative is enhancing and expanding Cancer Council’s existing information and support services to provide more timely, equitable, and culturally safe access to information, navigation, and support.
The program aims to strengthen, integrate and digitalise navigation pathways, making it easier for people to connect with trusted information, services and support that meets their needs. We are now seeking a Priority Populations Project Officer to support the design and delivery of an inclusive, equitable and culturally responsive national service. Working within the National Cancer Navigation Project team, this role will help embed inclusive service design principles across a major national initiative focused on improving equitable access to cancer support services. The role will contribute to co-design, stakeholder engagement, implementation and evaluation activities that strengthen outcomes for priority populations across Australia.
You will work closely with internal project teams, Cancer Council Federation members, consultants and external stakeholders to support initiatives that improve access, reduce barriers and strengthen culturally safe and accessible service delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting initiatives that embed inclusive and accessible service design across the Navigation Project
- Coordinating stakeholder engagement activities with community organisations, consumer representatives and key partners
- Supporting co-design and consultation activities to improve equitable access to navigation services
- Assisting with project planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting activities
- Supporting evaluation and continuous improvement initiatives focused on priority populations
- Contributing to reporting, governance and risk management activities
- Providing support for training and capability-building initiatives related to culturally responsive service delivery
- Building collaborative relationships across the Cancer Council Federation and external stakeholder groups

You are a collaborative and purpose driven project professional with a strong commitment to health equity and improving outcomes for diverse communities. You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working with a broad range of stakeholders, including community organisations, consumer representatives and internal project teams. You are confident managing competing priorities, coordinating projects and contributing to meaningful initiatives that create positive social impact. You are proactive, organised and solutions-focused, with strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex information into practical actions and clear stakeholder updates.
You bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in public health, social sciences, project management or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
- Experience designing, implementing or supporting inclusive and equitable services or programs
- Experience working with priority population groups and applying co-design or community engagement approaches
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
- Experience supporting project delivery, reporting and evaluation activities
- Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement
- Alignment with Cancer Council Australia’s mission and values
- Understanding of cancer support services or the broader health sector (desirable)
