These roles present a unique opportunity to work with one of Tassie’s leading not-for-profit organisations, where your role will truly have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of Tasmanians.

What you’ll do

As a Quitline Counsellor you’ll be responsible for providing high quality, evidence-based behavioural counselling, advice and information to Tasmanians who smoke and/or vape via the Quitline and other service delivery channels (e.g. Live chat, SMS). The role also provides information and advice to health professionals, community service workers and others seeking to support individuals through their quitting journey.

About you

Do you have a compassionate approach, and are able to:

  • effectively communicate using a range of methods, including with our community stakeholders
  • tailor your approach to meet individual needs
  • work productively in a supportive and collaborative environment
  • effectively manage your time
  • commit to ongoing professional learning, engage with research and best practice approaches to smoking and vaping cessation
  • interact with data collection and client record software programs

If that sounds like you, then we would love to receive your application.

Essential to the role is recent counselling experience and relevant qualifications in counselling, psychology, social work or a related field.

Previous experience in supporting young people aged 12 to 24 years is highly desirable.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are strongly encouraged to apply.

Potential applicants please note, Quitline hours of operation are 8am-8pm, Monday to Friday and our shifts are arranged within these timeframes.

Why work with us?

Smoking is the single greatest preventable cause of death and disease, and Tasmania has one of the highest smoking rates in Australia. At Quit Tasmania our aim is to eliminate the harms of smoking and vaping by preventing uptake and supporting Tasmanians to quit for good.

Joining Quit Tasmania means you’ll be part of a dedicated and experienced group of professionals, committed to making a significant impact on public health. Our core services and programs, including Quitline 13 7848, mass media campaigns and training to service providers form a crucial part of Tasmania’s comprehensive approach to tobacco control.

As a Quitline Counsellor, you’ll be contributing to impactful work, enjoy professional growth and make a meaningful difference.

Quit Tasmania is supported by the Tasmanian Department of Health and is a program of Cancer Council Tasmania, the leading cancer charity in Tasmania working hard to reduce the incidence and impact of cancer on all Tasmanians.
