CEO Update

Welcome to our eNews, again this month our eNews is packed with useful information, great links to interesting articles and websites and updates on what is happening in your community in relation to cancer. 

Today we can easily link into many sources of information through internet, print and on the radio but the essence of communication is still powerful when experienced person to person.   Cancer Council acknowledges the desire of people to be able to express themselves face to face and the comfort of having people to listen and share.  Over the past two years we have been enhancing our mix of services aimed at providing Territorians a choice and so maximising opportunities for us to provide support irrespective of where you chose to live.  Our new website design links people through to other sites seamlessly and our enhanced 13 11 20 services provide access to a specialist cancer nurse to discuss your individual needs with. In addition, face to face Cancer Forums have proved very popular and they are now being extended to Katherine and Alice Springs.  These forums enable consumers and service providers in a community to link up and share information. With these, and our other services, we aim to meet the needs of Territorians impacted by cancer.

None of this would be possible without the support of the Northern Territory community.  Both our financial and manpower needs are reliant on the generosity of everyday people that recognise the values of a community and the care it extends in times of need.  It is a validation to me that the community value our work and value each other by giving and working together to make the cancer journey easier for their fellow Territorians.   I think you should be very proud of the way that one of the smallest and most isolated population in Australia look after one another – and from my staff we are pleased to be at your service.
