CEO Update

Hello to our first edition of e-news for 2015.

Already the Cancer Council NT has been actively contributing to the health and welfare of Territorians and their families impacted by cancer.  You will see in this edition we have been delivering new initiatives, building on old friendships and continuing to provide evidence based information and support to assist people in their cancer journey.

There are many gaps in services and the needs for people impacted by cancer in the Territory, our needs are often greater and more complex than anywhere else in Australia.  Cancer Council NT works in a federated model which maintains our independence but provides us with the support, expertise and recognition as an important part of the largest and most respected cancer organisation in Australia.  But nothing can replace an active and vocal local community pushing and contributing for more and better cancer services.  No better example can I put forward than the new Cancer Council offices in Katherine.  On the 27th February Deputy Chief Minister Willem Westra van Holthe, a cancer survivor himself, proudly officially opened the Katherine Cancer Support services community office space.

Almost everyone in Katherine made a contribution to this - locals put in considerable volunteer hours and much of themselves to make the want for a specialist community cancer service a reality.  Special congratulations to the Rotary Club of Katherine, the Bendigo Bank and the Katherine Cancer Action Group for this achievement.
Thank you for your time and continued interest and support in assisting Territorians impacted by cancer – together we are making positive changes and contributions.  With your support we will continue to provide life saving information aimed at reducing the incidence of cancer and we will continue to provide real support and comfort to those that are impacted by cancer.
