Cancer Council Australia is seeking expressions of interest from individuals interested in joining the Lived Experience & Priority Populations Advisory Group (LEAP) supporting the National Cancer Navigation Service.
The National Cancer Navigation Service is being developed to help people affected by cancer connect more easily with information, support and services.
LEAP is a national advisory group that provides lived-experience and equity-focused input at key points in service delivery and improvement.
We are particularly interested in hearing from people who:
- have lived experience of cancer navigation (as a person with cancer, survivor, family member or carer), and/or
- identify with, or have strong connection to, one or more priority populations recognised in the Australian Cancer Plan, including:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds
- people living in rural, regional or remote areas
- people experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage
- people with disability
- LGBTIQ+ people
- older people
- children, adolescents and young adults
- people affected by rare and less common cancers
- families and carers
About the role
LEAP members provide advice on topics such as:
- access and usability
- cultural safety and trust
- barriers to support and navigation
- potential unintended impacts of service delivery decisions
Members are invited to participate in specific advisory activities aligned to program delivery needs. Participation is time-limited and supported.
You do not need formal qualifications, professional experience or previous committee involvement to apply.
Participation and support
Participation is approached in a respectful, inclusive and trauma-informed way.
Sitting fees, accessibility supports and flexible participation arrangements are available where applicable. This may include support such as interpreters, captions, assistive technology or flexibility for carers and participation needs.
Further information is available in the downloadable documents below.
How to apply
Please submit an expression of interest outlining:
- the lived experience or perspective you would bring
- why you are interested in participating
- any support or accessibility needs you would like us to be aware of
