How we integrate lived experience into our policies
Policy and advocacy
Cancer Council Australia is committed to embedding the voices of people with lived experience and the broader Australian community in everything we do. Community insights are vital to ensuring our policies, guidelines, programs, and research reflect the real needs and priorities of people today.
Lived experience and community involvement are central to shaping meaningful and relevant outcomes. We use a range of collaborative approaches, including community member peer-review, one-on-one consultations, inclusion in expert Working Groups, development of Community Reference Groups, and remuneration for involvement to support our work and outcomes to ensure engagement is inclusive, respectful, and representative.
Our processes are transparent, guided by best practice, and designed to embrace diversity. Most importantly, we are committed to creating safe, accessible, and supportive spaces where everyone feels comfortable and empowered to share their experiences.
