We work alongside the community, health professionals, and government to provide trusted information and services to those affected by cancer. With a mission to save lives and create a cancer-free future, Cancer Council offers a purpose-driven workplace where everyone can make a meaningful difference to help improve outcomes for people affected by cancer.

About the role

The Licensing function plays a vital role in generating sustainable revenue for Cancer Council Australia by leveraging our trusted brand across high-quality, affordable sun protection products. These licensing activities not only support our mission but also help promote sun-safe behaviours in communities across Australia. We are now seeking an experienced and commercially astute Head of Strategic Licensing, Regulation and Commercial Partnerships to lead our national licensing strategy and deliver growth through innovation, compliance excellence, and strategic partnerships.

This senior leadership role is responsible for driving Cancer Council Australia’s licensing and commercial strategy to maximise revenue, maintain regulatory excellence, and strengthen brand integrity. Reporting directly to the CEO, the role provides strategic and operational oversight of all product licensing, regulatory compliance, and risk management activities across national and international markets. You will lead high-level contract negotiations with licensees and retail partners, ensure compliance with quality and safety standards, and embed governance processes that support both commercial success and public health objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and evolve Cancer Council Australia’s national licensing strategy to drive growth, innovation, and brand impact.
  • Oversee regulatory and compliance frameworks across sun protection and consumer products in line with TGA, ACCC, and international standards.
  • Manage commercial contracts, performance frameworks, renewals, and dispute resolution.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with licensees, retailers, and key stakeholders.
  • Provide governance support to the Cancer Council Central Marketing Fund (CMF) Group and expert review committees.
  • Monitor category performance, royalty trends, and product risk profiles to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure all product endorsements, advertising and labelling are accurate, compliant, and aligned with Cancer Council Australia’s public health messaging.

About you

You are a strategic and commercially minded leader with a deep understanding of licensing, regulation, and partnership management within complex, compliance driven environments. With a proven ability to balance commercial growth and brand integrity, you bring a strong mix of business acumen, stakeholder management, and regulatory insight. You are motivated by purpose, thrive in dynamic settings, and are confident navigating the intersection of commercial innovation and public health impact. You bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Law, Regulatory Affairs, or related field.
  • Significant senior level experience in licensing, commercial partnerships, or product commercialisation.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks, product compliance, and intellectual property protection.
  • Demonstrated expertise in high-value commercial contract negotiation and management.
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams and stakeholder relationships.
  • Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen and analytical capability.
  • Experience in regulated industries or compliance-heavy consumer goods.
  • Legal, commercial, or regulatory qualifications.
  • Background in public health, not-for-profit, or purpose-driven organisations.
  • Public relations or communications experience.
