About the role

The Cancer Navigation Service is a key component of the Australian Government’s Australian Cancer Nursing and Navigation Program (ACNNP). This national initiative is enhancing and expanding Cancer Council’s existing information and support services to provide more timely, equitable, and culturally safe access to information, navigation, and support for anyone impacted by cancer. The project aims to integrate, strengthen, and digitalise navigation pathways, offering new ways for people to connect with support that best meets their needs now and into the future.

We are now seeking an experienced Project Officer – Assurance to pays a critical role in supporting the governance, integrity and transparency of the National Cancer Navigation Service Program. Working within the Program Management Office (PMO), you will contribute to the design, implementation and ongoing improvement of assurance and controls frameworks that support delivery of a complex, multi-jurisdictional national program. The role sits at the intersection of project delivery, risk management and governance, helping ensure the Program meets its contractual, financial, compliance and reporting obligations.

You will work across multiple workstreams and partner closely with program leadership, delivery teams, procurement, legal and risk stakeholders. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the implementation and maintenance of overarching assurance and governance frameworks
  • Maintaining program-level risk, issue and dependency registers and ensuring timely follow-up and escalation
  • Coordinating audits, reviews, stage-gate processes and advisory forums
  • Supporting compliance with grant requirements, financial controls, procurement frameworks and digital/ICT governance standards
  • Assisting with vendor assurance, including monitoring performance against contractual obligations
  • Preparing high-quality reporting, governance papers, action trackers and documentation for internal and external stakeholders
  • Identifying opportunities to strengthen controls, reporting processes and PMO maturity

About you

You are detail-oriented, analytical and comfortable working in environments where governance, compliance and accountability are critical. You understand how large programs operate and are motivated by creating structure, clarity and transparency. You enjoy working in structured environments, improving systems and processes, and contributing to well-governed, high-impact national initiatives.

You are proactive and solutions-focused, with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement. You will help embed strong foundations for program oversight while supporting the practical realities of delivery.

You bring:

  • Experience supporting project delivery in multi-stream environments
  • Exposure to governance, assurance, risk or compliance processes
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
  • Experience supporting procurement or contract management activities
  • Excellent written communication and documentation skills
  • High attention to detail and strong problem-solving capability
  • Alignment with Cancer Council Australia’s mission and values
  • Experience within the charity or not-for-profit sector.
