About Cancer Council Australia

Cancer Council Australia is the nation’s leading non-government cancer control organisation, focused on reducing the impact of cancer through research, prevention, and support. We work alongside the community, health professionals, and government to provide trusted information and services to those affected by cancer. With a mission to save lives and create a cancer-free future, Cancer Council offers a purpose-driven workplace where everyone can make a meaningful difference to help improve outcomes for people affected by cancer.

About the role

The Cancer Navigation Service is a key component of the Australian Government’s Australian Cancer Nursing and Navigation Program (ACNNP). This national initiative is enhancing and expanding Cancer Council’s existing information and support services to provide more timely, equitable, and culturally safe access to information, navigation, and support for anyone impacted by cancer. The project aims to integrate, strengthen, and digitalise navigation pathways, offering new ways for people to connect with support that best meets their needs now and into the future.

We are now seeking an experienced Change Manager who will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful adoption of the new Cancer Navigation Service as it expands from a telephone-based model to a fully integrated, digital platform. Working within the Program Management Office (PMO), this role provides national leadership, strategic oversight, and coordination across a network of state-based Change Coordinators responsible for on the ground implementation.

The Change Manager will develop and drive a comprehensive change management strategy to ensure alignment, readiness, and engagement across the Cancer Council Federation. The role will focus on achieving high levels of stakeholder buy-in, minimising disruption during the transition, and embedding new ways of working to improve both staff and user experience.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the design and execution of a Federation wide change management strategy and roadmap.
  • Conduct change impact and readiness assessments across multiple service locations.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and coordination to local Change Coordinators implementing change at state level.
  • Develop communication plans, key messaging, and toolkits to support consistent engagement.
  • Collaborate with Learning and Development teams to design and deliver training programs.
  • Monitor and report on adoption progress, risks, and change readiness.
  • Lead post-implementation reviews and continuous improvement activities.

About you

You’re a seasoned Change Manager with a proven record leading change management for large-scale health technology implementations (e.g., EMR, telehealth, patient portals, referral systems). You have demonstrated success working with or designing for diverse populations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, CALD groups, and people in rural or remote areas. You bring:

  • Proven experience designing and executing change management strategies for complex, multi-jurisdictional programs.
  • A strong understanding of healthcare change management principles and frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging and influencing diverse stakeholders including health professionals, executives, and IT teams.
  • Proven success delivering change initiatives within digital transformation or health service contexts.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and coaching skills.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Change Management, Business, or a related field.
  • Have exposure to federated or multi-agency delivery environments
  • Commitment to equity, inclusivity, and cultural safety in program delivery.

Our Culture

We embrace diversity, celebrate differences and inspire each person to be their authentic self at work. We welcome and actively encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with a disability, the LGBTQI+ community, mature age workers, as well as parents and carers returning to the workforce.

Why work with us?
