About Cancer Council Australia

Cancer Council Australia is the nation’s leading non-government cancer control organisation, focused on reducing the impact of cancer through research, prevention, and support. We work alongside the community, health professionals, and government to provide trusted information and services to those affected by cancer. With a mission to save lives and create a cancer-free future, Cancer Council offers a purpose-driven workplace where everyone can make a meaningful difference to help improve outcomes for people affected by cancer.

About the role

The Cancer Navigation Service is a key component of the Australian Government’s Australian Cancer Nursing and Navigation Program (ACNNP). This national initiative is enhancing and expanding Cancer Council’s existing information and support services to provide more timely, equitable, and culturally safe access to information, navigation, and support for anyone impacted by cancer. The project aims to integrate, strengthen, and digitalise navigation pathways, offering new ways for people to connect with support that best meets their needs now and into the future.

We are now seeking an experienced The Project Officer – Procurement to support the delivery of procurement and contract management activities across the National Cancer Navigation Service Program. Working within the Program Management Office (PMO), this role provides hands-on coordination of procurement processes across a complex, federated delivery model. You will work closely with internal stakeholders including Legal, Finance, the PMO, and delivery teams across the Cancer Council Federation to ensure procurement activities are compliant, well-documented and delivered on time.

This role combines general project officer responsibilities with a strong focus on procurement governance and contract administration and will suit someone who thrives in structured environments, enjoys coordinating multiple moving parts, and values accuracy and compliance. You will contribute to ensuring the Program’s procurement processes are transparent, accountable and aligned with government and organisational frameworks.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting sourcing activities in line with Cancer Council Australia and Department of Health, Disability and Ageing requirements
  • Assisting with the preparation and coordination of RFTs, RFPs, RFQs and EOIs
  • Maintaining procurement documentation, evaluation records and contract registers to ensure audit readiness
  • Supporting drafting, review and administration of contracts, including Statements of Work and Service Level Agreements
  • Coordinating evaluation panels, vendor due diligence and probity processes
  • Tracking contract milestones, deliverables and renewal timeframes
  • Partnering with the assurance team to monitor supplier performance and manage contract compliance
  • Contributing to improvements in procurement processes and PMO documentation standards

About you

You are highly organised, process-driven and confident working with documentation and compliance frameworks. You understand procurement lifecycle processes and are comfortable liaising across multiple teams to ensure activities progress smoothly and in accordance with policy.

You are solutions-focused and comfortable working in a complex, multi-stakeholder national program. Experience in health, government or not-for-profit environments will be highly regarded, particularly where procurement compliance and audit readiness were key requirements.

You bring:

  • Experience supporting procurement, sourcing or contract management activities
  • Experience working in structured project or PMO environments
  • Strong administrative capability and attention to detail, particularly in documentation and record-keeping
  • The ability to manage multiple concurrent procurement processes and deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with internal and external stakeholders
  • Initiative and sound judgement when navigating compliance requirements
  • Alignment with Cancer Council Australia’s mission and values
  • Experience within the charity or not-for-profit sector.
